چکیده

We compare single user digital multi-carrier spread spectrum (MC-SS) modulation with direct sequence (DS) SS (with a modified implementation) in the presence of narrowband interference (NBI) and multipath fading. We derive closed-form expressions for the symbol error probability for both the linear MMSE receiver as well as the conventional matched-filter receiver under different scenarios: additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel with NBI, multipath channel with or without NBI. We show that DS-SS can achieve the same performance as MC-SS if the spreading code is carefully designed to have perfect periodic autocorrelation function (PACF). On the other hand, MC-SS is more robust to narrowband interference and multipath fading than is DS-SS with the widely used spreading codes that do not possess perfect PACF. Our analysis reveals that the performance improvement of MC-SS is precisely due to the implicit construction of an equivalent spreading code having nonconstant amplitude but possessing perfect periodic autocorrelation.

Comparison of digital multi-carrier with direct sequence spread spectrum in the presence of multipath

We compare single user digital Multi-Carrier Spread Spectrum modulation with Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum in the presence of frequency-selective multipath fading. We derive closed-form expressions for the bit error probability and show that MC-SS is more robust to multipath fading than is DS-SS.

Lecture Notes 11: Direct-Sequence Spread-Spectrum Modulation

In this lecture we consider direct-sequence spread-spectrum systems. Unlike frequency-hopping, a direct-sequence signal occupies the entire bandwidth continuously. The signal is obtained by starting with a narrowband signal and directly modulating a high bandwidth signal. As with frequency hopping direct-sequence has advantages when the channel contains a jamming like signal. The jamming could ...

Design of a High Range, High Efficiency Spread Spectrum Transmitter for Audio Communication Applications

This work proposes a direct sequence spread spectrum transmitter with high transmission range and efficiency for audio signals. It is shown that by choosing high process gain for spread spectrum signal the data could reach a range of 55km in the 2.4GHz ISM band. By employing a light modulation scheme, we have a relaxed SNR requirement for having a low bit error rate (BER) which translates to re...

FPGA-Based Implementation of a Hybrid DS/FFH Spread-Spectrum Transceiver

In recent years there has been great interest in using hybrid spread-spectrum (HSS) techniques for commercial applications, particularly in the Smart Grid, in addition to their inherent uses in military communications. This is because HSS can accommodate high data rates with high link integrity, even in the presence of significant multipath effects and interfering signals. A highly useful form ...
